Complete detox and rejuvenation therapy for body and mind.

What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma, meaning “five actions”, is Ayurveda’s classical programme of cleansing and rejuvenation. It is not a single treatment but a planned course, chosen and timed for the individual, that aims to remove accumulated toxins (ama) and restore the balance of the doshas.

The three phases

  1. Preparation (Purvakarma) — oil massage (snehana) and steam (swedana) to loosen and mobilise toxins.
  2. The main procedures (Pradhana karma) — selected cleansing therapies such as Vamana, Virechana, Basti and Nasya, according to your condition and constitution.
  3. Recovery (Paschat karma) — a graded diet, rest and rejuvenating measures so the benefits last.

Who it may suit

  • Chronic lifestyle-related complaints and low energy
  • Stress, poor sleep and digestive problems
  • Joint and spine conditions, as supportive care alongside other treatment
  • Seasonal cleansing for general wellbeing

What to expect

After an initial assessment the doctor explains which procedures are advised, how many days they will take and what to eat and avoid. Some people feel tired or light-headed during the programme; this is monitored and the plan adjusted.

Considerations

Panchakarma is not suitable for everyone. It is generally deferred in pregnancy, during acute illness or fever, in severe weakness, and in certain heart, kidney or other serious conditions. The physician decides whether, when and which procedures are appropriate.

Individual results vary. This page is for general education and is not a substitute for a personal consultation — your physician will advise what is suitable for you.
