Viddhakarma

A specialised nerve-point therapy for fast recovery from nerve and muscle disorders.
What is Viddhakarma?
Viddhakarma is a classical Ayurvedic needling therapy. Fine, sterile needles are placed briefly at carefully chosen points — related to the body’s marma and affected channels — to relieve pain and help restore movement. It is often compared in purpose to dry needling or acupuncture, but it follows the Ayurvedic framework of doshas, marma points and srotas.
How it is understood to work
In Ayurvedic terms, the needling clears obstruction in the affected channels and settles aggravated Vata. From a physical point of view, needling may relax tight muscle and stimulate nearby nerve endings, which can reduce pain and stiffness and improve range of motion.
Conditions it is commonly used for
- Neck and back pain, sciatica
- Frozen shoulder and shoulder stiffness
- Knee and joint pain
- Tension and migraine-type headaches
- Muscle stiffness and nerve-related pain, as part of a broader plan
What to expect
- Assessment — history, examination and selection of points.
- Needling — sterile, single-use needles are inserted for a short time. You may feel a mild pinch or a sense of heaviness.
- Review — the response is noted and the plan adjusted for the next session.
A session is short; most plans involve a series of visits spaced to suit your condition.
Aftercare and safety
- Mild soreness or a small bruise at a point can occur and settles on its own.
- Rest, drink water, and avoid heavy exertion on the day of treatment.
- Tell the doctor if you take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, skin infection near the area, are pregnant, or are anxious about needles.
Individual results vary. This page is for general education and is not a substitute for a personal consultation — your physician will advise what is suitable for you.
